Natural History and Karyology of the Yucatán Vesper Mouse, Otonyctomys hatti

چکیده
eventeen specimens of the rare Yucatan vesper mouse, Otonyctomys hatti, are now known from Belize, Guatemala, and the Mexican states of Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan. We herein report a second specimen of O.hatti, from Belize, extending the known geographic range of the species 95 km te the southeast in the country. This is the first location at which O. hatti has been taken sympatrically with the Central American vesper mouse, Nyctomys sumichrasti. We also report data on three additional specimens of 0. haui from Campeche. yctomys and Otonyctomys share similar habits and habitat requirements, and might compete where they overlap. However, the distribution of 0. haui corresponds closely to that of other Yucatan endemic, and the distinct distributions of the two genera probably reflects biogeographic history and different habitat requirements, rather than result from direct competition. The karyotype of 0. haui is 2n=50, F =58. Although superficially similar, it differs in important respects with the karyotypes reported for N. sumichrasti.

Otonyctomys hatti (Rodentia: Cricetidae)
Otonyctomys hatti Anthony, 1932, is a rodent commonly called the Yucatán vesper mouse. A medium-sized, brightly colored mouse, it is the only species in the genus Otonyctomys. It is endemic to the Yucatan Peninsula. It seems to have arboreal habits and occurs in semideciduous tropical forest and vegetation near water. It feeds on seeds, either on the ground or in shrubs, and soft-bodied fruits....

Chromosome information is an important key for taxonomy, phylogeny and genetic in Trifolium plants. Thus, ten Trifolium species namely T. grandiflorum, T. resupinatum, T. dasyurum, T. campestre, T. tomentosum, T. hirtum, T. scabrum, T. lappaceum, T. stellatum, and T. repens were collected from their habitats in Fars province based on their morphologi...

Three subspecies of Mus musculus have been recognized in Iran so far. The house mouse (genus0T 0T2TMus2T, species0T 0T2TMus musculus2T) are recognized for their highly conserved morphology and chromosomal structure, but some chromosomal characters offer accurate taxonomic markers in this species that has been shown any unambiguous diagnostic morphological traits. Among the chromosomal character...
متن کاملA new Roncus species (Pseudoscorpiones: Neobisiidae) from Montseny Natural Park (Catalonia, Spain), with remarks on karyology
Roncus montsenyensis sp. nov. is described from Montseny Natural Park (Catalonia, Spain). The new species is geographically and morphologically close to Roncus cadinensis Zaragoza, 2007, but can be separated from it by palpal morphometrics, the chelal microsetae pattern and karyology. The diploid number was found to be 2n=16 in R. montsenyensis, with only biarmed chromosomes. The diploid number...
متن کاملKaryology study on Bleak (Alburnus alburnus) from the South Caspian Sea region
The chromosomal spread and karyotype of Bleak (Alburnus alburnus) from Anzali lagoon were identified using tissue squashing techniques with injection of 0.5ml/100g body weight of 0.01% Colchicines solution in fish fingerlings. Kidney and gill tissues were then extracted and chopped in KCl 0.045M for 20 min and fixed in Carnoy solution in 3 stages. The chromosomal spreads were stained in 20% Gim...
